Midnight Dream Throw – Free Moon Phases Crochet Blanket Pattern
The Midnight Dream Throw is one of the first patterns I ever designed, and looking back, I can see just how much my pattern-making skills have grown. It’s a special piece that has stayed close to my heart, and even though I didn’t have the chance to share it for free on my blog until now, I’m so happy to finally do so!
There’s something magical about crocheting under the glow of the moon, isn’t there? The rhythmic motion of the hook, the softness of the yarn, and the quiet stillness of the night—it all feels like a peaceful ritual. That’s exactly the feeling I wanted to capture with the Midnight Dream Throw, a cozy crochet blanket inspired by the phases of the moon.
This design brings together soothing stitches and beautiful colourwork to create a throw that feels both modern and timeless.
Grab your yarn, settle into your favorite crochet spot, and let’s stitch up a little piece of the night sky together. 🌙✨

Before we get into the actual pattern I also created the Ultimate Crochet Hack Sheet! It's 2 pages with basic
crochet abbreviations and symbols, hook sizes in US and UK version, all the yarn types (with recommended hooks and projects) etc. Feel free to click on the pic or a link to my shop where you can find more details.
What you need for this cardigan:
For this blanket you need:
• 5.5 mm hook / US I/9
• 9 skeins of colour A (1 skein 4 medium = 5oz/141g/252yds/231m)
• 1 skein of colour B (1 skein 4 medium = 7oz/198g/354yds/324m)
• scissors, yarn needle
Personally, I used CraftSmart yarn for this blanket. Colour A is a Tweed Navy and colour B is a
Mushroom. The yarn is inexpensive and very soft. I also recommend to buy all the yarns you need
for this project as there's a possibility you won't find your colour of the yarn next time.(personal
experience :))
Dimensions of this blanket:

Gauge
Please, make your swatch before doing this pattern to make sure you get the right size you'd like.
Gauge: 13DC x 7rows = 10cm / 4inch
Just a little note—this was one of my very first video tutorials for this pattern! Watching it now, I can already see a few things I do differently these days. However, I still believe it's clear enough to help you understand how to change yarn colours and follow along. Please be kind—this video is a beautiful reminder of how far I've come, and it’s proof of everything I’ve learned over the past three years. Thank you so much!
NOTES:
This pattern is all in DC (feel free to visit this link for the tutorial how to double crochet)
Every row ends with turning ch 2. It counts as a first DC of the next row. Every row has 150 DC in total.
I always carried colour A only. For the each moon phase I cut the yarn for a small ball of colour B.
Don't forget about last DC of the each row into the last 2ch.
The letter A or B following the stitch number indicates the colour in which the stitches are made.

Ch - chain
DC - double crochet

Border of the Moon Phases

The images below display the white borders of the moon phases that you'll sew using color B.
The numbers on each moon phase indicate the number of stitches. This will assist you in counting
from each moon phase where the border is placed.

I initiated the New Moon line at the point where the
arrow indicates the X letter. It precisely lies on the line
between the 54th and 55th rows, and between the 14th and 15th DC from the right of the throw.
FRINGE
I utilized the remaining portion of my last skein of color B to create four fringes for each corner. I cut as many 16-inch long strings as possible from the leftover skein, then divided them into four groups for each corner. I gathered a bunch of strings to form one fringe, pulled it through a corner of the throw, and folded it in half. I brushed out the fringe with my fingers and used one string to tie the fringe together about 1.5 inches from the top.
Feel free to visit my video tutorial where I show how to make the borders of the moon phases and other tips and tricks.
