commended Materials

In this tutorial, I use LionBrand Cotton24/7 cotton yarn. I find that the texture stands out more with cotton yarn, and its bright colors are beneficial during tutorials. For this yarn I use a 4mm/G-6 crochet hook.

However, if you're new to crocheting and just practicing, I highly recommend using any solid color acrylic yarn that works with a 5mm/H-8 hook size.

Directions

  • To create the V Stitch, begin with a foundation chain that is a multiple of 3.

  • Make DC into the 4th  ch from the hook (DC = YO, insert the hook into the 4th ch, YO, pull up a loop (you have 3 loops on your hook), YO and pull up a loop through 2 loops, then YO and pull up a loop through the remaining 2 loops = visit this link for the full tutorial how to Double Crochet).

  • Then ch 1 and make another DC into the same ch as you made your first DC. Now you completed your first V Stitch (DC, ch 1, DC in one st).

  • To create the next V stitch, skip two chains and work your V stitch into the 3rd chain, which consists of DC, ch 1, DC.

  • Keep working V stitches until you reach the end of the row. Once you've completed your final V stitch, there should be 2 chains/stitches remaining. Skip the next chain, and then make your last DC into the final chain.

  • At the end of the row, chain 2 and turn the project like a book page. The two chains counts as the first stitch of the row. Then, proceed with V stitches in the V stitch from the previous row (into the chain 1 space).

  • Continue across the row until you complete your final V stitch, then sk one stitch and make your last double crochet in the row's last stitch. Chain 2 and repeat the pattern..
